When Food Becomes More Than Just Food

In Ayurveda, eating is not a casual act, but a relationship with your body, your mind, and your consciousness. Over time, a new question arises:

The Subtle Essence: Ojas

In Ayurveda, we speak of Ojas, the most subtle essence of our food. It is invisible, but perceptible. As Ojas grows, your inner state also changes:

  • Your perception influences your choice

In Yoga, for example in the teachings of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, there is a central value:

Ahimsa—nonviolence.

Do no harm, neither in deed, nor in word, nor in thought.

Thus, nutrition quietly becomes something very personal: a decision guided by compassion.

Over time, your mind becomes calmer. Your senses gently withdraw.

In Yoga, this state is called pratyahara.

Spiritual development does not depend on external rules. And yet, over time, a natural refinement also becomes evident in the way we eat. Not out of compulsion, but because what we feel becomes ever more refined.
